Introducing Ophir Prison Band!
Help us kick of the weekend and pay tribute to Don Clark, a celebrated community member and former Independence Day organizer. The Ophir Prison Marching Kazoo Band & Temperance Society, Ltd. has been entertaining crowds and filling concert halls for more than 50 years.
This 25- to 40-member ensemble features a lively mix of woodwinds, brass, and percussion, performing an eclectic repertoire that spans Big Band, jazz, jump swing, and standards to rock, pop, and even hip-hop. Band members range in age from their early 20s to their late 70s.
Dressed in their own unique versions of “prison blues” and never taking themselves too seriously, members claim to hail from Ophir Prison—an allegedly historic minimum-security facility nestled in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Whatever their true origins, one thing is clear: they share a passion for music, fun, and giving audiences an unforgettable experience.
And that’s exactly what the Ophir Prison Band does best.
