The Graeagle Independence Day Committee is proud to announce Dave and Mary Lou “Dink” Rife as the 2026 Grand Marshals of the Graeagle Independence Day Parade, taking place Sunday, July 5, 2026, in downtown Graeagle.

In the special 7-minute video interview below, newly appointed 2026 Graeagle Independence Day Committee President Michele Skupic shares the exciting announcement and sits down with Dave and Dink to reflect on their decades of service, dedication, and love for the Graeagle and Eastern Plumas communities.

For generations, the Rifes have embodied the spirit of small-town community involvement. Dave “Coach” Rife spent many years as a respected teacher and mentor at Portola High School, positively influencing countless students and families throughout the region. Mary Lou “Dink” Rife has devoted her life to education as both a teacher and counselor, impacting students across all grade levels and even community college programs. Together, they have also contributed extensively to local volunteer efforts and community organizations, including the Eastern Plumas Community Assistance Network, the Johnsville Ski School, established memorial benches around the Mill Pond, founded the Tennis Club, and our local food bank.

Beyond education and volunteerism, Dink is also known as the author of The Graeagle Bear, four beloved children’s stories inspired by the beauty, character, and charm of the Graeagle region she has called home since 1964.

The Rifes’ lifelong commitment to uplifting others, preserving community spirit, and investing in future generations makes them truly deserving of this honor. Their story is woven deeply into the fabric of Graeagle itself.

Join Michele Skupic and the entire Graeagle Independence Day Committee in celebrating Dave and Dink Rife as they lead the 2026 Graeagle Independence Day Parade through downtown Graeagle on July 5th. Be sure to watch and share this heartfelt interview honoring two remarkable community leaders whose legacy continues to inspire us all.
